The Greenville Inn traces its origins to 1890, when wealthy lumber baron William Shaw began construction on what would become a ten-year project to complete his magnificent residence.

Now proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the mansion stands as a testament to fine craftsmanship and timeless design. Its carved embellishments, intricate wood paneling, and grand architectural details reflect the elegance of a bygone era. Perched atop a hill overlooking the East Cove of Moosehead Lake, the estate once offered sweeping views of the historic steamboats that glided across the water. The restored steamboat Katahdin still sails today, visible from the inn's expansive porches.

Over the decades, the property has passed through several families, each leaving their mark on its enduring legacy:

• 1987–2003: Operated by the Schnetzer family of Columbus, Ohio
• 2003–2021: Owned and operated by the Johannemann family of New Jersey
• 2021-Present Richard and Christine Brown
